Education Loan Latest News 2012 New
Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Saturday said an education loan is a right of every student and the officials with the public sector banks (PSBs) who are found rejecting a large number of applications may be penalised for denying the loans. “Bank account is a right of an individual. It is not a gift of a bank and bank loan is a right of every student,” Chidambaram told reporters here after meeting with the chiefs of public sector banks (PSBs) adding that the issue of education loans is close to his heart. “No application from a deserving candidate, if he/she meets the parameters, should be turned down by the (bank) officer receiving it. If a loan is not given, the decision can be taken only at one level higher to the officer receiving the loan application,” Chidambaram said.
Education loan is a right of every student
This was the first meeting between Chidambaram and the chiefs of PSBs since he took over charge of the finance ministry August 1. The agenda of meeting contained four issues relating to education loans including expansion, time-bound disposal of applications, education loans for meritorious students admitted under management quota and loans for professional diploma courses. According to Chidambaram, under the new policy if an increase in education loan rejections is detected then there can be punitive actions against the branch manager. “One case of application rejection or two cases may be an oversight issue, but if the branch reaches a critical number like five or ten cases of rejection then there can be action against the manager,” said Chidambaram. “It is very important that every students who meets the parameter must get a loan because it’s a right.” The PSBs are working up on the modalities surrounding the Budget announcement of a credit guarantee fund for education loans. They are also working on a mechanism for rating of institutions, courses and students for loan disbursement.

The course will be innovative and will be based on application of mathematical concepts rather than teaching and learning mathematics in the traditional way.” “We are thinking of having virtual classrooms so that students from both universities can benefit through technology. Sixty per cent of the coursework will involve project work,” says Chaturvedi. The mass communication papers have been chosen in collaboration with DU to make the curriculum more relevant. Admission will be through a jointly designed entrance test. “We have got clearance from the University Grants Commission (UGC) about the joint degree. We had to wait for the approval in order to be sure of the legality of the joint degree to be awarded to students,” says Sajid. Out of the 20 seats, both universities will select 10 students each. The classes will be conducted in both the universities. The course is expected to begin in September. Students who have a background in mathematics or who have cleared two maths papers of 100 marks or students who have had one subject as maths in their graduation can apply. There are two schools of thought about the concept of education. According to one school of thought, education is a merit good; while according to another school of thought, education is a non-merit good. Whatever concept of education we accept as right, but one thing is universally accepted that education is a most powerful tool of social transformation and a grand panacea for all evils of modern age. If we want to change the socio-economic milieu and develop scientific temperament and learning aptitude in young people in the present fastly changing tech-savy age, the professional education is not only vital, but has great relevance for value addition and value based system. Value addition is required for wealth maximization and valued based system is needed for ethical code of conduct. These twin objective can simultaneously be achieved by the professional quality education. It is not only a good source of better livelihood, but also helps in career planning, which is the need of an hour. University of Kota is offering several professional courses to the students in building their bright career and shaping personality by harnessing their 'latent talent'. Our emphasis is to extend the scope and increase opportunities for higher education and research in every branch of human knowledge and also to ensure quality all along so that learners may 'learn faultlessly'. Our endeavor is also to provide an environment to the students where they can blossom into good citizens.
We are also committed not only to create an atmosphere of brain storming for idea generation, but also for instilling pride, human dignity and maintaining an ambieance of mutual respect, culture of tolerance while emphasizing scholastic achievements. At the end, I welcome all new aspirants for admission to various professional courses which are being run by different colleges affiliated to this university and wish them very best and bright professional career ahead. I also hope that all of them will be using their full potential for the benefit of self and society both and transform themselves into an energetic, confident and independent professionals ready to face any kind of challenge of present complex and ever changing global environment.
